The Continuum of Literacy Learning

The Continuum (referred to as the Bible by some of the literacy coaches) is a book by Fountas and Pinnell that lists literacy behaviors expected at each grade and guided reading level. It was written to guide planning for teaching and assessment. A benefit of using the Continuum is the common language it provides to educators. There are three different publications. One focuses on K-2, one on grades 3-8, and a third covers K-8. A Pre-K Continuum will be available in about six months.
